Tom Pieciak (PYEH-chak) is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and educator, working across a variety of styles and musical environments. With one foot in jazz and improvised music, and the other in modern folk songwriting, Tom brings an original perspective to his musical endeavors both on the bandstand and in the studio.

Tom has a diverse history of musical experiences, ranging from being a trumpeter in small and large jazz ensembles, to a singer and multi-instrumentalist in indie-rock outfits, to a guitarist in country bands. His genre-bending folk-jazz group “Commoners” features his original compositions that combine folk and jazz influences. In addition, Tom is an emerging singer/songwriter and producer and will be recording his debut album in September 2024 under the name “Sleeping Trees”. The recording session will partially funded by the Bloomington Arts Commission's Emerging Artists Grant.

As an educator, Tom has had his trumpet students win top prizes at state solo competitions and has worked with students ranging from preschool to retired adults on jazz, classical, and pop music. He also works in radio, has experience editing podcasts, and has done research into the relationship between jazz and spirituality. Tom recently completed his master's degree in jazz studies at the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana.
